London Wonderground at the Southbank Centre – 8 May – 23 September

This summer, the coach park between the Royal Festival Hall and the London Eye will be transformed into The London Wonderground, which will bring a taste of 20th-century Coney Island to London.

At the centre of the festival will be a 600-capacity Spiegeltent presenting cabaret, music and circus, headlined by the Australian circus show Cantina.

Cantina stars some of Australia's greatest circus acts, including artists from La Clique, Circa, Acrobat and Circus Oz, in a show designed especially for the Spiegeltent.

 
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee – 2-5 June

Join in the festivities in London in 2012 as Her Majesty the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years as Britain's monarch.

To mark the Diamond Jubilee, the UK government is planning a four-day Jubilee weekend. This will include moving the last May bank holiday to 4 June and adding an additional bank holiday on 5 June. So you've got even more time to celebrate!

The Queen is the only British Monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee, other than Queen Victoria in 1897.

 
Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant – 3 June

Up to 1,000 boats are expected to take part in the pageant, including those used by the armed forces and emergency services, as well as historic boats, wooden launches and steam vessels.Each craft will be decorated streamers and Union Jack flags, and the passenger boats will carry up to 30,000 members of the public.

Other highlights of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant include: music barges, boats spouting geysers, pyrotechnic barges releasing smoke and daytime fireworks, a floating belfry, a gun salute and family fun at Battersea Park, with music, a traditional funfair and Jubilee-themed entertainment.

Watch the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant for free along the River Thames. There will be up to 50 big screens along the route.

 
Diamond Jubilee Carriage Procession at St Paul's Cathedral – 5 June

Take to the streets to watch The Queen's Diamond Jubilee carriage procession to St Paul's Cathedral. As Queen Victoria did before her, Queen Elizabeth II will formally commemorate her 60-year reign with a Thanksgiving Service at St Paul's Cathedral. Watch as The Queen and members of the Royal Family travel to St Paul's in a formal carriage procession along the streets of London.

The procession will arrive at Sir Christopher Wren's famous London landmark, St Paul's Cathedral, which has a tradition of hosting important royal events. The Queen has celebrated her jubilees and her 80th birthday at the Cathedral.

 
Greenwich to Become a Royal Borough

As part of the Jubilee celebrations, Greenwich is being made a royal borough. Being given royal borough status is a rare event and there are only three other royal boroughs in London: Kensington & Chelsea, Windsor & Maidenhead &Kingston-upon-Thames The title is being granted to Greenwich in recognition of the close links between Greenwich and the monarchy and Greenwich's global significance as a World Heritage Site.

Other important rewards and titles awarded during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations include the Diamond Jubilee Medal and Civic Honours: towns can apply to become a city.

Copa del Rey Spanish cup final – 25 May 2012

The Copa del Rey final will see FC Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao. For Athletic this will be their 36th appearance in a Copa del Rey final, which they have won an impressive 22 times in total.

The latest final between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao was in the 2008/09 season, when Barça beat Athletic 4-1. The full name of Copa del Rey tournament is El Campeonato de España–Copa de Su Majestad el Rey de Fútbol. FC Barcelona is the team that has won the Copa del Rey most times with an amazing 25 titles.

Athletic Bilbao qualified for the final by beating second division team Mirandes. FC Barcelona who defeated Valencia.

 
MotoGP 2012 - 1-2 June

The thrilling Motorcycling World Championship comes to Barcelona when Montmeló racetrack hosts the 2012 Catalonia MotoGP World Championship.

This is one of the most popular races on the Moto GP circuit. The race itself takes place at the Circuit de Catalunya race track near Barcelona. More than 100.000 race fans and visitors are expected to visit the track.

Do not miss the chance to experience the world's top motorcycling championship live in the 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP classes. The Montmelo circuit has 17 grandstands and 20 giant screens are located around the track, so you will not miss any action!

Madonna in Concert – 20-21 June

The material girl & undisputed Queen of Pop Madonna returns to Barcelona in June on the European leg of her 2012 Madonna World Tour which sees her perform in 26 cities in Europe.

The first concert date is Wednesday 20th June and the second will be held the day after, Thursday 21st June. The venue of both concerts is the Palau Sant Jordi arena.

 
Nit de Sant Joan - 23 June

Also known as Festival of Saint John the Baptist, Nit de San Joan refers to those events taking place on the evening of the 23rd of June in celebration of midsummer's eve in Spain. It's festive, noisy and it's fiery!

These rather loud celebrations kick off at sundown and come to an end at sunrise the following day, during which time there are open-air fiestas with fireworks and bonfires illuminating the night sky, a symbol of abundance, purity and fertility dating back to ancient times.

The following day, El día de Sant Joan - Saint John's day, is a public holiday in Spain.
